Intersectional equality

The discourse in society is very much about equality between the two sexes in the binary gender system. This training session takes gender equality one step further by analysing gender equality from an intersectional perspective. This means taking into account gender expressions/gender identities other than male and female, such as non-binary and transgender. It also takes into account ethnicity, sexuality, class, disability and religion.

Intersectional equality is about putting people on an equal footing and highlighting that not all men, women, non-binary and transgender people can be categorized into a single category.

This is because there are several factors that make us unique.

To understand how intersectionality works, the training programme will be based on a privilege walk. This method makes visible the advantages and disadvantages that people and groups can have based on how they are categorized and experience different conditions in life. By using intersectionality as a perspective, I show how people within the same category do not have to share the same privileges or be discriminated against in the same way.

The aim is to make us aware of these privileges in order to have a better understanding of our own position in society and also of others. This training aims to prevent discrimination, provide tools for dealing with discrimination and create space for reflection.
